Blasts from the past...

The fruits of my labour
I got a lovely surprise yesterday when I picked up the Sunday Mirror and saw one of my Lily Allen shots from Friday night's show at Brixton Academy in the paper. They printed it really big which was very nice of them I have to say. I have now uploaded the best shots from the shoot as well as my Gossip shots from Saturday night so feel free to check them out...

The bigger the better...
If bigger is better, then Beth Ditto of The Gossip is the best. Here are a few shots from last night - the band totally rocked so this was a rather enjoyable shoot. Luckily we could use flash otherwise the shots would look rather different..

It's Lily...
When Lily Allen comes to town, I try to make myself available to shoot her - and that's exactly what I did last night when she played the first of 4 sold out shows at Brixton Academy. Here's a quick preview of some of my shots...

Quifftastic
Here are a few shots of New Quiff on the Block La Roux from last night's show at the Shepherds Bush Empire. Will post the full gallery over the weekend along with some other new shots...

Update me
Time for an update. Last night I shot The Specials at the Apollo and escaped without getting hit by a cup of beer. Now that's what I call a good shoot. The previous night I shot Snow Patrol at the Royal Albert Hall and escaped without any decent shots as we had to shoot from the mixing desk but hadn't been told in advance so none of the photographers had brought a long enough lens. Oh, and a week ago I shot Moby at the Palace Theatre but it totally escaped me to post any of the shots here.

Young again
It was a slowish weekend and despite the awful weather I agreed to leave the house to shoot Will Young at the Apollo on Saturday. The things I do in the name of, er, art...

White Lies
Last night White Lies played the first of two sold out shows at Brixton Academy and - shock horror - they turned off the smoke machines which made photographing them really rather pain free. Regardez los photos below...

A-Muse-ing
I last went to Paris at the end of June to shoot the mighty Depeche Mode at the Stade de France. On Tuesday afternoon I returned to the city of style to shoot Muse at the Bercy. To say the shoot was challenging would be a massive understatement. Initially, everyting that could possibly go wrong, did go wrong but I triumphed in the end and got some great shots. Expect to see the photos at the end of December...

Umbrellas, mobiles and Rihanna
On Monday night I headed to Brixton Academy for Rihanna's special album launch gig - sponsored by the kind people at Nokia. It always amazes me how many people are invovled in making decisions when it comes to big US artists - so getting my shots approved at the end of the evening was an experience I won't forget in a hurry. The gig itself was very good and it made me realise that only the US seems to be capable of producing massive international solo acts. I mean, Rihanna, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake - are there any UK equivalences worth mentioning? Fortunately, the UK wins pretty much every time when it comes to the subject of bands - for every decent US band there are 10 UK bands that easily wipe the floor with their American counterparts. I wasn't allowed to shoot the gig from the pit and had to take position behind the mixing desk with a massive 400mm lens instead. While I'm not a fan of long lens photography (if you can call it that) I am pretty happy with some of the shots I got.

Smoke Mushroom, and Robyn (in a) hood(ie)
It's not often you get to photograph two Norwegian bands in one week - but following A-ha's performance at the O2 on Wednesday, I headed to the Shepherds Bush Empire on Thursday night to shoot one of my favoruite bands in the whole wide world - Royksopp. The email I got from the publicist said "First 5 songs, no flash" but when I arrived at the venue I was told I could shoot the whole set! I couldn't have been happier as I would have bought a ticket to see band so to be allowed to shoot their whole show was undoubtably one of the highlights of the year for me. As expected Royksopp blew everyone away and their two guest vocalists Anneli Drecker and Robyn made the evening even more special. I cannot recommend Royksopp's most recent album, Junior, enough. Do check it out as it is one of the albums of the year!

A-ha - O2 - Bye bye
Last night A-ha played their last ever show in London. If recent reports are to be believed the band will call it a day at the end of their current tour
so I thought I'd better take the opportunity and finally get a few shots of these 80s legends. If you're a fan of Morten and co. make sure you check out the live shots in the gallery.

Postcard from me
Yesterday evening I headed to Konk Studios in Crouch End to take stills on the set of Ray Davies' video for his new single Postcards from London. Chrissie Hynde is the guest vocalist on the song but due to the somewhat complicated history between the two they filmed their scenes for the video separately. Ray left about 15 minutes before Chrissie arrived so unfortunately I didn't get any shots of them together. I'll post a link to the video as well as some of the stills in the next few weeks...

The green grass of Wembley
Yesterday afternoon I headed to Wembley Stadium for a photocall with Green Day who were about to announce a massive gig at the Stadium taking place in the Summer of 2010. It's not often you get a chance to walk around a deserted Wembley Stadium so this was quite a unique experience - and of course I had my photo taken while I was there as a little souvenir. In the evening the band played a fantastic show at Wembley Arena next door so if you're a Green Day fan make sure you check out the gallery.
