Blasts from the past...

Take a PiL(l)

I've never had the pleasure to shoot the Sex Pistols as the last time they played a show in London the band wouldn't allow anyone to photograph them - but luckily yesterday I was fortunate enough to shoot John Lydon with his other band Public Image LTD again. The fact the band opened with one of their biggest hits (This is not a Love Song) made the first 5 or so minutes of the shoot rather enjoyable.

In other news, earlier today I headed to the Hospital Club again - this time for the Mercury Prize nominations. Sorry, I meant the Barclaycard Mercury Prize! Dear Barclaycard management - having plugged your credit card on my site, would you consider cancelling my last bill...please?

Feeling the Love

So, Lovebox is over for another year. Oh, what fun we had - and for once I'm not being sarcastic. OK, there was a lot of waiting around in the blistering sun but our little group of photographers kept each other entertained throughout the weekend - and I've definitely had more fun and laughs at Lovebox than I did at Glastonbury! Not sure when I'll get a chance to post the full gallery of images as I'm severely behind on editing and posting photos - but below are some of the best bits from the weekend. As you can imagine, with a line-up that eclectic there is no shortage of memorable bits. Peaches whose appearance at the festival was in doubt following a recent foot injury fooled the audience by sending out a double to open her show before emerging from the side of the stage in a wheelchair pushed by a naked transexual dancer! Hot Chip proved to be a real favourite with the audience getting one of the best crowd reactions of the entire weekend (much deserved I should add), and of course Grace Jones presence alone was enough to turn day three of Lovebox into a really rather special event.

Loveboxed

I'm more than half-way through shooting the 3-day Lovebox Festival in London. Hard work but lots of fun nonethless as you can imagine (yeah right, poor old me). Anyway, last year the festival ran for two days but it's now grown into a very diverse 3-day extravaganza with a pretty amazing line-up. Last year, the big headliners were Duran Duran who brought on Mark Ronson as their special surprise guest. Well, yesterday Mark Ronson - who was second highest on the bill - returned the favour and brought on Duran Duran as his special guests. With the help of some lovely people I managed to pull a few strings and was allowed to shoot Ronson's entire set. So, it only seems right to give you a quick Ronson/Duran Duran preview here until I post the full set of shots. Enjoy.

12 months on

It was exactly a year ago at Lovebox that I first shot Florence + the Machine. Well, they have certainly come a long way in that time and are now one of the biggest bands in the UK - a much deserved achievement. Yesterday, Florence & co played a show at Somerset House in London and as I love shooting them I just had to get a pass for the gig.

Old stuff

Oh dear, is it really the 14th of July already? I have had a busy couple of weeks so the fact that we're half way through July has totally passed me by. It's been a little quiet on the photo front - the usual rubbish of passes not coming through or people not replying to emails (shameful really) but I have been keeping myself busy with other projects! Anyway, there are a few things in the pipeline that I'm really rather excited about but like any good secret agent I'm sworn to secrecy.

Until the next load of new photos arrives - and there will probably be a real bucketload of shots - I shall give you a few snaps from the beginning of May when I shot
Detroit Social Club, Goldhawks and Tiffany Page at Manchester's Sound Control - a small club with abyssmal lighting. Oh, I forgot to mention I shot Snoop Dogg in London last Friday but the whole thing was beyond funny. We were split into two groups as there were 18 of us and each group was supposed to shoot 2 songs. I was in the second group and after exactly 2 1/2 minutes (EXIF data never lies!) security told us to leave as we had apparently got our two songs. 2 songs in 2 1/2 minutes - of course! I didn't take many shots in that time so there isn't much I can show you on here. Never mind!

Back to the future

Time for something a bit different. Yesterday I shot NE-YO at his official Album Playback at the Hospital Club in Covent Garden. An interesting event that was presented by NE-YO himself. It wasn't one of those half-arsed affairs where someone hits 'Play' and you listen to selected songs from an as-yet-unreleased album. Nope, NE-YO really pushed the boat out and talked about the story behind each of the songs that was played and participated in a Q&A session aterwards.

More time travel

In March I had the pleasure to shoot Massive Attack over two consecutive nights. When you photograph a band like Massive Attack it's all about shooting the actual show as opposed to shooting the band so the wide shots I took are the ones I was particularly happy with. It certainly felt more like a super impressive art installation than a live show and it was a bit of a bitch to shoot due to the amount of backlighting and smoke. Anyway, I can now finally post the shots on the site so check out the gallery for 60+ shots from the two shows.

Time travel

Well, Glasto finished a week ago so it's time to go back in time and see what went down on Worthy Farm. I could have put up even more photos but I reckon 104 is quite enough. OK, there may be a few too many LaRoux shots in the mix but at this point I can't be arsed to narrow down the selection even more. Either way, check out the galleries if you feel like it.

On to the next one...

With Glasto out of the way, it was time to head to the second festival of the summer. On Friday and Saturday I spent the day in sunny Kent to shoot 15 bands including Blondie, Mumford & Sons, Laura Marling and Pete Doherty. The thing with festivals is that unless you get to shoot from the stage the shots tend to be a bit generic looking. A pretty bare stage with a giant black backdrop shot from the pit at a rather steep angle. I think I had more fun shooting the crowd than I did photographing the bands on stage..and after all the on-stage action at Glasto I'm just not digging the average festival shoot right now. Anyway, here are a few shots from the weekend.

A few more

OK, I don't think I'll ever finish going through all my Glastonbury shots and putting them online. Actually, to be fair I think I have gone through most of them but creating the galleries is a bit of an undertaking. I'll get there though eventually, I'm sure. In the meantime, here are two new on-stage shots of La Roux and Florence + the Machine taken on Friday on the Other Stage, as well as one of the LCD Soundsystem shots from the gallery I posted a couple of days ago, taken on Sunday night on the Other Stage. I think I spent more time on that stage during my time at Glastonbury this year than I did in the pits of all the various other stages combined. You sure can't beat the view from up there - that's for sure!

In other news, yesterday I shot
Kings of Leon in Hyde Park - photos to follow soon as they are currently embargoed.
